PREMIER PROTOTYPE, INC.: Ensuring a Successful Transition to ISO 9001:2015
I enjoyed learning more about the standards. It’s exciting to be able to put these new standards in place and improve our understanding of the company.

Premier Prototype, Inc. (www.premierprototype.com) was founded with the goal of providing customers with the finest prototype service in the industry. Premier Prototype is committed to working with customers throughout all phases of prototype development, with service offerings including prototype stampings, short run production, mock-ups, break press work, fabrications, weldments, machine details, NC cutting and prototype tool manufacturing. Premier Prototype employs 40 at their Sterling Heights, Mich., location.
Challenge
After Premier Prototype’s ISO 9001:2008 certification expired and lapsed, they wanted to transition to ISO 9001:2015 in order to both retain current customers and gain new ones.
Solution
Premier Prototype turned to the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center (The Center) for assistance in this transition. Four managers from different areas of the business participated in The Center’s ISO 9001:2015 Organizational Transition training, where they reviewed and revised their existing quality goals and Quality Management System to comply with the updated standard. Additionally, since current manufacturing processes did not fully utilize process metrics, the team established key metrics in production to monitor effectiveness going forward.
To ensure this new quality standard was fully embraced throughout the organization, members of Premier Prototype’s management team engaged in The Center’s ISO 9001:2015 Management Transition training. Following this, the team attended The Center’s ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor training to gain a deeper understanding of the standard and better prepare for their audit. As a result, Premier Prototype was able to pass their audit with only one minor finding, successfully achieving their ISO 9001:2015 certification.
