PCMI MANUFACTURING INTEGRATION: Growth Through TS 16949 & AS 9100 Implementation
Once we decided we wanted to grow more heavily into the automotive and aerospace markets, we knew the incorporation of ISO/TS 16949 and AS 9100 quality standards was necessary. MMTC was able to streamline the process quickly and efficiently, helping us manage this transition.
-- Bill Edney, President-PCMI Manufacturing Integration
PCMI Manufacturing Integration (prototypecast.com) is a privately held organization headquartered in Shelby Township, MI with 10 employees. PCMI has more than 25 years of experience in the casting/engineering business, and serves the Automotive, Heavy Truck, Aircraft/Aerospace, Non-Aerospace Defense/Military, Construction, Mining, Oil & Gas, and Communications industries. PCMI is an integrator who outsources die castings, forgings and investment castings from the following alloys: Iron, Steel, Titanium, Stainless Steel, Magnesium, and Aluminum.
Challenge
With the majority of their business tied to short-run prototype part activity, PCMI Manufacturing Integration realized that diversifying into full production markets was crucial for growth. Having produced prototype parts for the automotive and aerospace industry, as well as some short-run production parts, PCMI investigated what they needed to do organizationally to better access the automotive and aerospace industry and build awareness about their new services. During internal conversations, PCMI also identified concerns regarding the effectiveness of its website in conveying their capabilities and generating new business.
Solution
To address their concerns, PCMI contacted MMTC. Through discussions, MMTC determined ISO/TS 16949 and AS 9100 Preparation and Implementation was necessary. After a five session Prepare & Implementation for Automotive Standard TS 16949 & Aerospace Standard AS9100, and (2) half day mentoring sessions, PCMI attained system compliance and are pursuing registration. MMTC worked with PCMI to prepare internal personnel in developing, managing and maintaining a quality system to comply with appropriate standards in preparation for formal registration. The training programs focused on required policies, procedures, and work instructions.
As part of the strategic planning process, discussions were held regarding website functionality and effectiveness. To address these concerns, MMTC built a new website for PCMI. MMTC redesigned their website to strengthen their brand, created web content to enhance site engine optimization, and trained key staff on how to track and measure the effectiveness of the new technology. PCMI also received mentoring regarding the effective use of social media to drive website traffic.
