Lean Applications Workforce Training (CEU Credits: 3.5)

Lean Applications Workforce Training (CEU Credits: 3.5)

This five-day course introduces a variety of Lean tools used that help identify and eliminate waste in a manufacturing environment. Training is designed to promote a sustainable continuous improvement effort and ensure positive outcomes in the long-term strategic deployment of Lean manufacturing practices.

DAY 1: Day one provides students with an introduction to Lean manufacturing, methods to manage cultural change, the power of teamwork, and an introduction to Industry 4.0 technologies and their impact on manufacturing. Students will also participate in a hands-on BUZZ simulation that will expose them to finding and eliminating wastes found in traditional manufacturing settings.

DAY 2: Day two introduces students to the fundamental Lean methodologies of 5S and Standard Work, as well as the practical tool of Value Stream Mapping.

DAY 3: Day three provides the opportunity to understand and utilize the Lean tools of Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). Participants will be exposed to the eight principles of a SMED system to learn how they can reduce the time a machine is down not making parts resulting in lost capacity. TPM emphasizes proactive and preventative maintenance to maximize the operational efficiency of equipment.

DAY 4: Students will be introduced to both A3 Problem Solving using the Plan, Do, Check, Act methodology and Mistake Proofing, which is an effort to put something in place that prevents a process from producing defects.

DAY 5: Students are exposed to the elements and usefulness of cellular manufacturing and Kaizen. On day five, participants will review the data from the first round of BUZZ, and then based on what they have learned so far, make improvements to the simulation for round two.
