Small Business Saturday is Nov. 29th

11/28/2014

In 2010, American Express founded Small Business Saturday to help businesses with their most pressing need - getting more customers. The day encourages people to shop at small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The single day has grown into a powerful movement, and more people are taking part than ever before.

In 2011, The U.S. Senate officially recognized the day, paving the way for 2012 where an estimated $5.5 Billion* was spent at small independent businesses on that day.

In 2013, more than 1,450 neighborhood champions signed up to rally their communities, with individuals and local organizations pledging to support the day.

Be sure to check EventBrite for the list of events in Michigan promoting Small Business Saturday, 2014 or the American Express map that allows you to search for participating small businesses near you.

*Based on the First Annual Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey of a nationally representative sample of 800 adults conducted between 11/22/12 - 11/26/12 by Redshift Research on behalf of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and American Express. The expenditure data is based on the sub-segment of subjects who were aware of Small Business Saturday and reported shopping at small, independently-owned retailers and restaurants on the day. The results have a 95% level of confidence with a margin of error of +/- 5.64%.
