STANDARD COMPONENTS: QMS Transition on a Deadline
I would highly recommend coming to The Center for your Quality needs. In a tight time-crunch, they helped us transition with time to spare. We could not have done it without their help and experience.
-- Steve Bahnke, Quality Auditor
Standard Components LLC (www.scigage.com) is a leading manufacturer of various tooling applications, check fixtures and gages. Created in 2001 and located in Sterling Heights, MI, Standard Components specializes in the design, build and certification of such tools used in the automotive, aerospace and defense industries. With 58 employees, Standard Components continues to grow its client base, currently serving customers such as Lockheed Martin, Honda Jet, General Motors Company, Chrysler and Gulfstream Aerospace. Standard Components is committed to providing the highest quality solutions to gaging and tooling needs, earning numerous awards for its outstanding customer satisfaction and customer value.
Challenge
Standard Components makes it a priority to stay up-to-date on the latest Quality Management System (QMS) updates to further ensure their commitment to making high quality and consistent products. With an upcoming system audit scheduled, the team at Standard Components had only one month to successfully transition from AS9100C to AS9100D before they would be audited.
Solution
Given the brief window of time in which to transition to AS9100D, Standard Components came to the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center (The Center) for assistance in updating their QMS. Having a new employee in the role of Quality Auditor at their company made for an added challenge to the process, but The Center was able to work with Standard Components to successfully transition and implement their QMS with a few weeks to spare before their official audit. Because Standard Components already had a functional, effective QMS in place at their organization, the transition process was able to be completed quickly and smoothly. Following this transition, Standard Components received only minor write-ups on their official audit, which a Quality expert at The Center was able to help iron out to ensure their QMS was completely updated and flawless.
