This class exposes non-financial managers to financial concepts that are relevant to managing any type of business, with an additional focus on manufacturing. Managers make daily decisions that impact the financial health of the business, so they need to understand the basics of financial management.

This course is designed for Vice Presidents, General Managers, Plant Managers, Operations Managers, Manufacturing Department Managers, Office Managers, Marketing Managers, Sales Managers, Quality Managers, Engineering Managers, Human Resource Managers, Project/Program Managers and Purchasing Managers.

A successful student should be able to do the following at the end of this course:

  • Explain the principal financial statements (balance sheet, income statement & cash flow)
  • Explain how costs in the company flow through the financial statements.
  • Explain how managers can use financial statements to ask critical questions and make informed decisions
  • Explain inventory costing/valuation methods
  • Explain budgeting and variance analysis
  • Explain basic financial ratios and how business activities impact them
  • Discuss how stakeholders in any business can have a positive impact on the financial health of their business
